News: SSL Certificate Lifespan Changes Now Active

Published: 01/03/2026 Back

We’re implementing important industry-wide updates to SSL certificate validity periods to enhance online security.
What’s Changing?
Starting March 13, 2026, the maximum validity of newly issued SSL certificates has been reduced from 398 days to 199 days before reissuance is required.
This is part of a broader industry transition led by the Certificate Authority/Browser Forum:

Now (March 2026): 199 days maximum
2027: 100 days
2029: 47 days

Important: The total length of your SSL order (e.g. 1-year term) remains unchanged. Only the individual certificate lifespan before automatic reissuance is affected.
How We’re Supporting You
To make this transition seamless, we’ve introduced automated reissuance:

All new SSL certificates purchased from today will automatically reissue when 199 days remain on your order.
The new certificate will be emailed to your SSL contact and BCC’d to your primary account email.
No new private key or Domain Control Validation (DCV) is required.
You will need to install the new certificate on your server before the current one expires to maintain continuous SSL coverage.

Who Is Affected?

New certificates issued on or after March 13, 2026 will follow the new 199-day reissue schedule.
Existing certificates issued before March 13, 2026 will retain their original validity unless manually reissued.
Our AutoSSL service on all Shared Hosting plans remains completely unaffected.

Why These Changes?
These reductions were agreed upon by the CA/Browser Forum in April 2025 to improve security by cycling certificates more frequently, reducing the window of risk if a certificate is ever compromised.
We’ve prepared our systems to handle these changes smoothly with minimal disruption to your services. If you have any questions about your SSL certificates, please don’t hesitate to contact our support team.
